For field theories defined on a manifold with a boundary
there exists a canonical symplectic structure. This structure enables
the constraints of a field theory to be categorised and interpreted
geometrically. In particular, Yang-Mills theory, BF theory and
Chern-Simons theory all satisfy a theorem which relates the properties
of this structure to the form of their actions.
